Thanks for the various mob offers. It's kind of cool...kind of scary...that I could access violent Mafia men so easily. I worked it all out. I didn't cuss out the dean and, as far as I know, I am still a registered student of John Brown University. Now I must depart for Chicago. A full review when I return...

yeah yeah yeah...no blog for a while. I know.
I'm going to Chicago on Thursday. I get to see my friend Maggie, whom I haven't seen in a year and a half, and my cousin Steven who I haven't seen in...a while. I could not be more excited. On the itinerary: life conversations, eating, ice skating in Millennium Park, chopping down a Christmas tree, eating. This may not be the wisest time to go. I have finals next week. But really, none of that matters, not compared to the life moments that will take place this weekend.
I wrote a letter to the dean of undergraduate students yesterday with the veiled theme of damn the man! I'm all about systems and order when they are necessary and efficient. But when people start denying common sense because of "the system" then I start to get really angry. Here's the situation:
I have a final scheduled on Friday the 17th for a class that doesn't even meet Fridays (problem #1). The final is not an actual exam, but a take-home test that just has to be turned in. Because of the rules and regulations that the man has instituted, my prof is required to require us to sit during the final time. He will come up with some sort of busy-work to keep us there for 20 mins, and when we've finished we can go home for Christmas. I have a Pine Cove reunion I want to go to on Thursday night. Can I turn the paper in early? no. Can I have a friend hand it in for me? no. Are you freaking kidding me?! That doesn't make any sense.
If it was an actual exam, I would understand. If they let one person, they'd have to let everyone. That many early exams would be tough to orchestrate. I get it. BUT it's not an exam! It's a paper! If every student wants to turn their paper in early they should be able to! Ultimately, it would be better for the prof.
Am I right on this? Does this make sense to anyone else?
